2017 EYCC Show Report

EDREMIT YORKHIRE CANARY CLUB SHOW REPORT 2017

Due to the world record entry achieved in the previous year the EYCC club show was moved to the new venue of Ataturk Spor Salonu in Gure which is the home of the local basketball team. The main court area provided an increase in floor area and first floor areas for the trade and bird sales.

For this years event Judges Steve Dominey and Bob Pepper were joined by Italian judge Danielle Corso.

Due to a late moult the entry was unable to match the previous years event yet a total of 1510 Yorkshire canaries graced the benches for the three judges to compare.

With some classes in excess of 200 this years judging was completed within nine hours with the entry having provided some testing classes.

The best Yorkshire in show was awarded for the second year running to a bird from the team bench by Tarhan Kardesler. This was a perfectly feathered variegated yellow hen of excellent length which had displayed excellent showmanship throughout the proceedings.

The runner up to the best in show was a self green yellow cock shown by Mehmet Karakus. This cock had pushed for the leading award having good shape and position. It just failed to have the impact of the winning bird but was a credit to its breeder.

In third place was a green buff hen which was another bird shown by Tarhan Kardesler. A lovely shaped bird with close tight feather and another bird with great composure.

Mustafa Balci filled the fourth place with his self green yellow hen which again showed very good shape, position  and feather quality.

Another green yellow hen from the same class was the fifth best bird for Kamil Ekici. This bird and the previous two birds were really neck and neck in the line up with very little between them.

Another green marked yellow hen filled the sixth place for Hakan Celik. This was a really nice rounded hen that stood well, just lacking the feather quality of the birds in front of it but was a very worthy placed Yorkshire.

Completing the best seven specials was a very popular winner Tamer Acar who won with a heavily variegated green buff cock having headed a really strong class of birds. A really nice round top end combined with excellent feather quality enabled the cock to be placed within a very strong line up of birds.

The pinnacle of the show was provided by the Mayor of Edremit awarding the major prizes along with a profession compare who managed the proceedings. The mayor accompanied by Television crews attended the show on both days and is a great supporter of the event.

We also thank the mayor for his king loan of his car and of his yacht and crew who proceeded to take us for a fantastic trip on the Aegean Sea on the day prior to judging.

The committee of the club can once again be highly commended for staging such a superb event. The judges would also like to thank the stewards who ensure that the judging proceedure runs well and that all of the birds are cared for and staged correctly. They all do a wonderful job.

Steve and Bob look forward to our return to the show in 2018.
